Barb Mayes Boustead is a meteorologist and climate program leader at the National Weather Service in Omaha, Nebraska, with a career that has also taken her through its headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, and through the office in Davenport, Iowa. A Michigan native, Barbara obtained undergraduate degrees from Central Michigan University in 2000, with majors in meteorology, geography, and English, and minors in mathematics and history, followed by an M.S. in meteorology from The Pennsylvania State University (2002) and a Ph.D. in Climate Assessment and Impacts from the University of Nebraska (2014).  Her professional interests include climate, historical weather events, severe and extreme weather, and improving communication of weather and climate concepts. Barbara is married to another meteorologist, Josh, with a beloved son, Jaxon. Barbara researches the weather and climate events from all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, posting on both her blog and on Facebook (“Wilder Weather”).
