The Fourth of July was a big event in many of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, from the canon and celebration in Malone’s famous three corner square after the freak freeze in Malone, New York to Rose Wilder Lane’s additions to the celebration in De Smet when Laura realizes she’ll soon be an adult and free and independent herself, the Fourth of July is always front and center. Celebrate the way Laura did with lemonade and reading the Declaration of Independence.
