Are you getting excited for Laurapalooza? Wondering what your dorm room will be like? Worried that about what to bring to make your life as comfortable as possible? Well, here’s the scoop on dorm life at Laurapalooza 15.
Our home during our stay on the campus of South Dakota State University is Caldwell Hall. You will receive a map with the Hall identified in your registration and welcome packet. Please be sure to bring it with you when you come. Check-in time at Caldwell Hall will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15. If you need a different check-in time, please notify us as soon as possible. Check out will be between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. each morning Thursday through Sunday.
Caldwell Hall is a modern dorm. It has an elevator, central air conditioning and laundry on each wing. The dorm is locked at night and the actual dorm hallways are behind locked doors. When you check in you will receive a personalized key card that will provide access to the secured areas of the dorm and to your room. The keycard will also be loaded with your meal plan if you paid for one. You will be provided with a user name and password for the wireless internet when you check into the dorm.
When you registered you were asked to request single or double rooms and to indicate a roommate or suite mates. Rooms will be assigned according to your request. Each room is part of a suite. Each suite includes:
• Private bathroom between bedrooms
• Sink in each room
• Two bedrooms connected by a bathroom
• Two twin beds with 80 inch mattresses
• Two desks and chairs
• Two dressers
• Trash can
The dorm provides pillow, blanket, bed sheets, towel, and washcloth but they are very “institutional”. You might want to consider bringing your own linens from home if you want to be comfy and cozy. There are no televisions or radios in the dorm rooms but again, you will have WiFi access. If you are a reader or want direct lighting plan to bring a book light or small reading lamp as the rooms only have an overhead light fixture. Snacks and drinks are allowed but there is no refrigeration in your room.
That should cover just about all you ever wanted to know about dorm life at Laurapalooza. If you have additional questions, feel free to ask them here.
See you in Brookings!

Nancy Hatfield and I will be leaving the dorm on Sunday 7/19 between 3am-4am to catch a 6:30am flight in sioux falls.
Nancy, I will check to see how we can make that happen.
Those check-in hours are earlier and tighter than I had expected. But I can make it work. (Just wondering though what happens if one doesn’t make it by 5?)
My friend and I are coming from Chicago and we are wondering the same thing.
I will check and see if we can extend the hours. Watch for updates here.
The check-in time will also be a problem for a couple of us driving over from Wisconsin. If it could be extended until 7 PM, it would be a big help.
Be sure to read the new blog post with updates to this information.
