Rose are red,
Violets are blue,
Maple syrup is sweet,
And Naomi,
a jug of it
is coming to you!
Naomi has been chosen by random.org as the winner of Laura’s birthday giveaway! Here’s what Naomi had to say about her favorite Laura-ism:
I too have many favorites, of course. But one that comes to mind is this one — it’s such a clear picture of the difference in personality between Laura and Mary.
“Mary and Laura wanted to catch one. Again and again they almost had one. The gopher would stand perfectly still until you were sure you had him this time, then just as you touched him. He wasn’t there. There was only his round hole in the ground.
Laura ran and ran and couldn’t catch one. Mary sat perfectly still beside a hole, waiting for one to come up, and just beyond her reach gophers scampered merrily and gophers sat up and looked at her. But not one every came out of that hole.”
Congratulations, Naomi! Please email your mailing information to beyondlittlehouse (at) gmail (dot) com and we will get your maple syrup to you. A special thank you goes out to all of you who shared your favorites (which I know is pretty much impossible). I think we all enjoyed reading them. 🙂

Ooo! Wow! I didn’t expect to win. Daughter will be thrilled! (I dont like maple syrup, but she does.)
Mailing info is on the way.
Naomi is a lucky girl! The particular maple syrup prize from Laura Welser is a tasty homemade gift that we’ve enjoyed this past year over blueberry pancakes. Yum!
With the Oscars coming up tomorrow, I thought you’d like to know about two connections I found to the Little House series as part of the Lincoln movie. One, if you watch closely, I counted about 3 lap desks in different politician’s offices. They look very similar to Laura’s that was made by Almanzo. Also, the song “Battle Cry of Freedom” is sung by the politicians towards the end of the movie (part of Little House on the Prairie). What a wonderful song you don’t really hear anymore! Thanks to Dale Cockrell’s “The Arkansas Traveler” CD and “Pa’s Fiddle:The Music of America” CD and DVD, I learned it before seeing the movie in order to recognize the song. Now, even my 4-year-old son knows it (he recognized the melody during a couple of TV commercials as well).
